- I have to make a call after I finish my work. 이 일 끝내고 전화해야 해.
> make a call : 전화를 걸다
ex) Hold on guys, I have to make a call. 얘들아 잠깐만, 나 전화 좀 걸어야 해.
- Michael, can I talk to you? Michael, 얘기 좀 해도 돼요?
> Can I talk to you? 얘기 좀 해도 돼요? // for a second = for a sec = for a minute : 잠시만, 잠깐만
ex) Can I talk to you for a second? 잠깐만 얘기할 수 있어요?
- Rain check? 다음에 하지?
> rain check : 잠시 미루다, 다음으로 미루다
ex) Can I take a rain check? 다음으로 미뤄도 될까?
Can we take a rain check for dinner? 우리 저녁 약속을 다음으로 미뤄도 될까?
- I slashed benefits to the bone. 보험 혜택을 대폭 줄였어요.
> to the bone : 심하게, 최대한, 깊이 (뼛속까지, 뼈저리게의 뉘앙스)
ex) Hospitals have already cut their costs to the bone in order to survive financially. 병원들은 재정 위기 극복을 위해 이미 철저한 비용 절감을 단행했다.
Your comments hurt to the bone. 너의 말은 내게 깊은 상처를 줬어.
- Just don’t let anybody in my office under any conditions today. 오늘은 어떠한 경우에도 내 사무실에 아무도 들이지 마.
> under ~ conditions : ~한 조건하에, ~한 상황하에 𖤐업무 지시를 받거나 거래 조건 협상을 하는 비즈니스 상황에서 자주 쓰임
ex) I can’t work under these conditions. 이런 환경에서는 일 못해.
Pets are not allowed under any conditions. 애완동물 반입은 어떤 경우라도 허용되지 않습니다.
- Deal with it. 받아들여.
> deal with ~ : ~를 해결하다, 다루다, 처리하다 인정하다, 받아들이다 𖤐상하 관계에서 보다는 친구 사이에서 많이 사용하는 표현
ex) Just deal with it. 그냥 받아들여.
Just deal with it and get it done. 그냥 받아들이고 끝내도록 해.
- He literally won’t come out of his office. 말 그대로 사무실에 처박혀 있어요.
> literally : 말 그대로, 진짜로, 정말로
ex) I literally just got here. 나 진짜 방금 막 도착했어.
I was literally worn out. 나 진짜 너무 피곤했어.
- So hang in there, and I will see you at the end of the day, all right? 그러니까 조금만 더 버티게. 오늘 퇴근 전에 보자고, 알겠지?
> hang in there : 견디다, 조금만 참다, 버티다
ex) Hang in there. You are so close to the finish line. 조금만 더 견뎌. 결승선이 정말 코앞이야.
Just hang in there a little bit. 조금만 더 힘내.
- You let him walk all over you. 지점장님이 마음대로 하게 뒀잖아.
> walk over : ~를 함부로 대하다, 깔아뭉개다 𖤐상대방의 기분을 고려하지 않은 무례한 행동하는 것을 의미함
ex) You shouldn’t let him walk all over you like that. 걔가 너 그렇게 함부로 대하게 놔두지 마.
I feel like my friends walk all over me. 친구들이 나에게 함부로 하는 것 같아.
