<오늘 배운 표현>

• Fill it out, leave it anonymous. Or don’t write any disease down at all, and it won’t be covered. 작성하고 익명으로 두거나, 아무런 질병을 적지 않고 보험 혜택을 받지 말거나.

   > fill (something) out :  ~를 작성하다, 기입하다
   ex) Please fill out this form. 이 양식을 작성해 주세요.

• Headed out. 나가는 길이야.

   > head out : ~로 향해 가다
   ex) I’m headed to school. 저는 학교에 가고 있어요.
         I’m headed to work. 저는 회사에 가고 있어요.
         Headed out. 퇴근할게요. 나가볼게요.

• Who is this? 누구세요?

   > who is this? : 누구세요? 누구시라고요?
   ex) Who is this? Can I get your name? 누구시죠? 성함이 어떻게 되세요?
         Who am I speaking with? 제가 지금 누구랑 얘기하고 있죠?

• He is not here right now. 지금은 자리를 비웠습니다.

   > be not here right now : ~는 지금 자리에 없다
   ex) Mom’s not here right now. 엄마 지금 여기 안 계셔.
         He is not here right now. 그는 지금 자리에 없어요.

• It has been brought to my attention that some of you are unhappy with my plan. 몇몇 분들이 제가 고른 상품에 불만족스러워하신다는 걸 알게됐습니다.

   > bring A to one’s attention : ~에게 A를 인지시키다   𖤐조치가 필요해서 당사자가 알아야 하는 상황, 문제 등이 있을 때 사용하며 격식 있는 자리에서 적합한 표현
   ex) I appreciate you bringing this problem to my attention. 이 문제를 알려줘서 고마워.
         The data leak was brought to the company’s attention. 회사 측에서 자료 유출에 대해 알게 되었다.

• So, like, let’s say that my teeth turned to liquid. 내 치아가 액체로 바뀌었다고 치자.

   > Let’s say~ : ~라고 가정하다, ~라고 치다   𖤐for example에 비해 비격식적으로 들림!
   ex) Let’s say Paul doesn’t show up. What would you do? Paul이 만약 안 나타난다고 생각해 보자. 그럼 너 어떡할 거야?
         Let’s say you’re right and I’m wrong. 네가 맞고 내가 틀리다고 쳐보자.

• What would you call that? 이걸 뭐라고 부를까?

   > would : ~라면
   ex) What would you do if you were him? 네가 만약 그 사람이라면 어떻게 하겠어?
         It would be great to have you over at my place tonight. 오늘 네가 우리 집에 온다면 참 좋을 것 같아.

• I thought you said you were inventing disease? 병을 새롭게 만들고 있다며?

   > I thought ~ : ~라고 생각했는데
   ex) I thought it was my turn. 내 차례인 줄 알았는데.
         A: Why do you look so surprised? 왜 그렇게 놀란 얼굴이야?
         B: I thought you said you’d be back tomorrow. 나는 네가 내일 돌아온다고 한 줄 알았는데.

• And see, I thrive on this. 저한텐 이런 게 낙이거든요.

   > thrive on : ~를 즐기다, ~를 먹고 자라다 // thrive : 자라나다, 번창하다
   ex) Koreans thrive on rice. 한국 사람들은 쌀을 주식으로 삼는다.
         Some people thrive on others’ misfortune. 어떤 사람들은 남의 불행에서 에너지를 얻는다.

• Yes, I can, I’m manager for the day. 할 수 있어, 오늘 하루는 내가 지점장이야.

   > for the day : 그날은, 오늘은, 오늘 하루 동안
   ex) I thought you had already left work for the day. 이미 퇴근한 줄 알았어요.
         I think I’m done working out for the day. 오늘 운동은 다한 것 같아.

• I’m not bothering you, am I? 내가 방해되는 건 아니지?

   > bother : 방해하다
   ex) I don’t mean to bother you, but I need your help. 방해하고 싶진 않은데, 니 도움이 좀 필요해.
         Sorry to bother you, but I need to ask you something. 방해해서 미안한데, 물어볼 게 있어서.

• Oh, hey, listen, um, since I have you on the phone, um, can I fire Jim? 저기요, 통화가 됐으니 말인데, Jim을 해고해도 되나요?

   > I have ~ on the phone : ~로부터 온 전화를 받다   𖤐 낮은 직급의 사람이 높은 직급의 사람에게 전화를 돌릴 때 사용되는 경우가 많음
   ex) I have the manager on the phone. 매니저로부터 전화 왔어요.
         I finally have you on the phone. Why is it so hard to reach you? 드디어 통화가 되네. 왜 이렇게 연락하기 어려운 거야?

• I got no help from corporate, so that leaves me with no options. 본사에서도 도움을 못 받았으니, 이제 저에겐 선택의 여지가 없어요.

   > leave ~ with no options : ~에게 선택의 여지가 없다 (= leave ~ with no choice)
   ex) I was left with no option but to go to work. 출근하는 거 말고는 선택의 여지가 없었어.
         If you don’t pay me back, you will leave me with no option but to report you to the police. 저한테 돈을 갚지 않으시면 저는 경찰에게 신고할 수밖에 없어요.
